A partnership is in place to aid Muskegon County residents still dealing with damage caused by the June 26 storm that whipped through the area, but applications for assistance must be submitted by this coming Monday, Sept. 16.
The county is partnering with United Way of the Lakeshore, the Community Foundation for Muskegon County, TrueNorth Community Services and HealthWest for the assistance, which will provide resources to those who need it, prioritizing those with the greatest need.
"Projects like this highlight the strength and compassion of our community," Muskegon County Administrator Mark Eisenbarth said in a press release. "I am thankful for all our community partners and individual donors who are working together to support our friends, families and neighbors in their time of need."
The Community Foundation donated $25,000 to fund the partnership, and United Way has also begun a fundraising effort for additional money.
County staff has been in contact with those who reported storm damage to connect them with an application, and assistance will be distributed as long as it is available.
Officials estimate that more than $2.1 million of damage was done throughout the county. State officials recently denied a request for disaster relief.
