Reeths-Puffer dropped its O-K Green Conference opening match Thursday against Caledonia, 25-13, 25-10, 25-16.
The Rockets (8-8, 0-1 O-K Green) entered the season knowing that they were a young, rebuilding squad and their conference slate would be among the toughest in Michigan. Four of their five league foes are in the current Division 1 state coaches' association rankings, with three (Caledonia included) getting honorable mention and Jenison ranked #6.
"Our team had some great moments where we battled hard," R-P coach Justin Birr said. "Where we were
clearly outplayed was serve and serve-receive. We did not serve the ball
tough enough, so they ran their offense with ease and got quick
side-outs. We also struggled against tough float serves in
serve-receive. However, when we got a good pass, I think we did a pretty
good job putting the ball away."
Aubree Wilks led the Rocket defense with 10 digs. Alissa Klopp had six kills and Mairyn Peterson earned a pair of blocks.
