Reeths-Puffer volleyball continues improved play in loss to Mona Shores

Reeths-Puffer was dealt a three-game loss to Mona Shores Thursday night, 25-21, 25-8, 25-14, but coach Justin Birr continues to be encouraged by the growth he is seeing from the young Rockets.
"Our seniors experienced a 25-5 defeat last season against Mona Shores," Birr said. "Those same seniors battled this year throughout the entire night, especially in the first set. To keep us within reach of a big upset, our girls passed the best we have all season."
The Rockets are now 8-9 overall and 0-2 in the O-K Green Conference
Birr credited Carlee Bowen and Chloe Brainard with strong back-row play. Alissa Klopp led the offense with nine kills, and Madilynn Dyer had 13 assists.
Shores is R-P's second O-K Green opponent in a row that is honorable mention in the Division 1 state rankings, and it'll face a third next week in Byron Center. Birr noted his team is not self-satisfied with their improved play against the seasoned opponents they've faced.
"They want to win," Birr said. "We will keep working to close the gap in one of the toughest conferences in the state of Michigan."
