Even with a shorthanded roster Wednesday, Montague was able to battle past Muskegon Catholic 1-0, securing its ninth straight victory.
The Wildcats (12-2) were down six starters with a combination of illness, injury and one player suspended by MHSAA rule after receiving a red card in the previous match. That led to five freshmen - Zach Taylor, Emerson Hedrick, Austin White, Steven Aebig and Isaiah
King - being on the field at once at one point.
"The underclassmen really stepped up this match," Montague coach Brandon Mahoney said. "After watching these freshmen work, it is very apparent that the future is bright for Montague boys soccer."
Star Trevor Trevino faced double-teams all day long, but still managed to break loose for the game's only goal, beating the Crusader keeper one-on-one for the score around the halfway mark of the second half.
