Harwood Flats on course for January opening

WHITEHALL — Almost one year ago, on Halloween, Veneklasen Construction broke ground on the new $8.5 million Harwood Flats project in Whitehall. The building, located across from Goodrich Park, will provide 35 new apartments conveniently close to downtown. The idea of Harwood Flats is to introduce additional housing to the White Lake community, the lack of which has been a hot topic at both Montague and Whitehall city councils within the last couple of years.
“The purpose of it is to bring residents living in downtown Whitehall and further activate the community,” said Veneklasen Construction CEO Chris Veneklasen. “Bring people living and shopping, eating to the downtown area. To provide housing in that area as well.”
Veneklasen added he hopes the new development will benefit surrounding businesses and help aid in people with new job opportunities or local families not having to rely on surrounding cities to find close and available housing.
Harwood Flats will feature one, two and three-bedroom apartments, each with one or two bathrooms. Each unit will feature in-unit laundry, central air conditioning and stainless steel appliances. Select units will also have balconies. The building will be pet-friendly, with a limit of two per household. With the apartments being new, modern and located close to White Lake, rent prices will range from $1,295 to $1,900 per month.
Harwood Flats is expected to be finished by January 2025.
