Montague volleyball finishes as runner-up at Chippewa Hills Invitational

Montague had a solid day Saturday at the Chippewa Hills Invitational, reaching the Gold bracket finals before finishing as runner-up.
The Wildcats went 1-0-2 in pool play, defeating Evart and splitting matches with Alma and Central Montcalm. In bracket play, the Wildcats (19-8-4) edged Shepherd 25-20, 25-23 and beat Reed City 27-26, 25-16. Montague lost the finals to Beal City in a three-game battle, 26-27, 25-21, 15-11.
Montague sophomore Annelyse Schneider, normally a JV player, played up to cover for some varsity absences and performed well, racking up a team-best 12 blocks.
Gentry Knop led the defense with 71 digs, and Maizie Collins added 59 to go with a team-high 36 kills. Jordan Netcott had 10 aces, and Jaelyn Sundberg posted 93 assists.
