Correction regarding recent Tannery Bay wetland stories

Two White Lake Mirror articles were published in October about the filling of a wetland near Tannery Bay. The articles incorrectly said a wetland has been filled by the city. Recent city council meetings have seen councilwoman Tanya Cabala expressing concern about a permit granted from EGLE for a partial wetland fill at Eastbrook Homes, but not Tannery Bay. The original permit for that project expired, but EGLE has since granted an updated permit that will allow work to continue.
The city of Whitehall does have future plans to develop a one-acre parcel of city-owned land north of Tannery Bay that was donated to it by Eastbrook for purposes of public lake access. (The parcel is just north of the wetland.)
No work plans or permits have been submitted or granted for this project at this time, nor has any work begun yet, as the plans have not been finalized. The city and the Muskegon Conservation District are working on a grant application that would, if successful, help fund the site’s development. There will be more information published regarding the one-acre city land project in the future, once the city of Whitehall moves forward with it.
The White Lake Mirror apologizes for the errors.
