Montague's girls wrestling team, which starts the season with three
athletes, opened the season by competing in a tournament in Howell.
Freshman
Taylor Moore led the way for Montague, finishing second in the
235-pound weight class. She earned pins all the way to the finals match
before ending with a runner-up finish.
"Taylor is an athlete and really put
her name on the radar today by making the finals in her high school
debut," Montague coach Kris Maddox said.
Ava Pelton placed
third at 155. Maddox said Pelton holds a No. 2 state ranking and had two
defending state champions in the bracket with her. Zaniya Meza placed
fourth.
"We fully believe all three of our girls are capable of continuing
our strong tradition of a girls wrestling program here at Montague," Maddox said.
