Whitehall opened its season with a first-place finish Saturday at
the Grandville Challenge, edging the host Bulldogs by 18 points.
The
Vikings had seven wrestlers take the top spots at their weight classes.
Gavin Craner, Wyatt Jenkins, Blake English and Cody Manzo were the most
dominant of those performers. Jenkins scored first-period pins in all
five of his matches at 215 pounds, and Craner scored four first-period
pins and a technical fall to go 5-0 at 190. English, at 157, and Manzo,
at 126, each earned pins in all but one of their matches.
Also
earning first-place spots were the Leeke brothers, Liam and Tommy. Liam
went 4-1 at 165, securing his top spot by tiebreaker after edging
Jayden Meaux of Portage Northern 13-12 in a thrilling decision. He also
had two pins and a technical fall. Tommy went 3-0 at 103, with a
technical fall and two major decisions.
Isaac O'Boyle (113),
Blake Wallace (120) and Kolten Weiler (132) each took second place at
their weight classes. Wallace scored four pin victories, and Weiler had
three pins and a technical fall.
