Montague picked up a second-place finish at the West Michigan
Conference's opening jamboree of the season Wednesday night in
Scottville, scoring 634.26 points.
The Wildcats, whose stated
preseason goal is a WMC title, got a look at the gap they'll have to
bridge to get there, finishing 60 points behind first-place Hart. They
would've been a bit closer but for 18 penalty points they were assessed
in round two; seven of the 10 schools competing were hit with penalty
points in that round.
Whitehall finished fifth with a total score of 597.22 points, but did not accrue any penalty points in the meet.
Montague
enjoyed a good round three performance, scoring 276.5 points, just 5.4
behind Hart, easily the closest the 'Cats got to their top competition
in a round. Whitehall's best round by far was its first, in which the
Vikings racked up 197.9 points, the second-most of any school.
