Montague had a 3-2 record Saturday at its home Randy Jacobs Memorial Duals.
The Wildcats edged North Muskegon in their first match, 40-39, and defeated Orchard View 51-21. They then dropped matches to Otsego (56-17) and Hamilton (73-6) before ending the day with a 40-35 win over Northview.
The Wildcats won five straight bouts with bonus points against Northview to grab a 28-11 lead they never relinquished.
Coach Kris Maddox said he was most impressed by the wrestlers' willingness to move around the lineup to maximize team points, which most clearly showed up against Hamilton, despite the final score.
"We are at the point in the season where we need to continue to be pushed and tested," Maddox said. "(Moving around the lineup) didn’t work in their favor much, but there were no complaints from our kids. That’s a testament to learning to put team first, which is great for our kids to accept being so young."
Fletcher Thommen, Clay Jordan, Isaac French and Maverick Osborne led the Wildcats, each earning 4-1 records.
