A gutsy comeback win highlighted Montague's night Wednesday at the
Ludington Quad, as the Wildcats rallied to beat Hesperia 40-38 before
dispatching Ludington 78-6, improving to 13-4 this year in duals.
The
'Cats trailed by 10 against Hesperia with two bouts to go before two
freshmen, Alex Breed and Gavyn Maddox, scored consecutive pins to flip
the match. Both wrestlers trailed at one point before rallying for the
pins.
Michael Jones and Isaac French also secured pins for
Montague in that dual, and Mason Bassett and Fletcher Thommen both won
by technical fall. Clay Jordan picked up a win by forfeit.
"I'm incredibly proud of our young group of wrestlers," Montague coach Kris Maddox said. "We battled
each match, learning that bonus points are extremely important. These
close matches are great for our development this time of year, and it’s
great to see our young guys poised in stressful situations."
Breed, Maddox, Thommen, Jones, Jordan and French added wins against Ludington to complete 2-0 nights.
