Montague boys basketball can't sustain good start in loss to Grant

Montague went toe-to-toe with an excellent Grant team for one quarter Tuesday night, but was unable to sustain that level of play in an 80-35 defeat.
The Wildcats (4-14) led by a point, 14-13, at the end of the first quarter, despite Grant's gaudy 15-2 record. However, the visiting Tigers exploded for a 27-2 scoring run in the second and never looked back.
"Grant is well-coached, and a dangerous offensive team," Montague coach Nick Thaler said. "Defensively, they are very disciplined and do not miss many assignments. We needed to play our very best to compete with them, and we did for one quarter. We lacked that focus and attention to detail in the middle portion of the contest."
Jack Degen led Montague with eight points, all in the first quarter. Ethan DeLong countered with 19 for the Tigers.
