Montague opened its season with a doubleheader loss to West Ottawa Friday, by scores of 9-3 and 4-3.
Eli Petersen had two hits, including a double, in game one, and Bryton Belinger and Fletcher Thommen each drove in a run. Belinger also pitched three innings of relief and struck out five.
The second game was called in the bottom of the fourth inning due to darkness. The Panthers scored the winning run in the fourth. Six different Wildcats got a hit, and Belinger, Kellan Francis and Eli Pendell each drove in a run. Petersen struck out four in the game.
