Montague grabbed a fifth-inning lead in game one of a doubleheader
against Calvin Christian Saturday and held on for a 9-8 victory on the
way to a split. The Squires bounced back with an 18-10 win in game two.
The
'Cats (8-4) took advantage of four walks and a hit batter in the fifth
to score four times, capped by a go-ahead RBI single from Bryton
Belinger. Belinger had three hits, including a double, and drove in two
runs. Eli Petersen got the win in relief, throwing 1 1/3 scoreless
innings and striking out one.
Calvin Christian blew open the
nightcap with six runs in the fifth inning, spoiling a high-scoring game
for the Wildcat offense. Petersen got three hits and Cole Moss doubled
twice. Jack Degen and Kellan Francis also each got two hits. Four Wildcat errors led to seven unearned runs being scored off Moss on the mound; he allowed no earned runs in two innings.
