Montague exploded for 22 runs in game two of a doubleheader at Big
Rapids Friday to salvage a split. The Wildcats won 22-14 after a 13-3
defeat in game one.
Montague's offense was on fire from the
first pitch of the nightcap. The 'Cats (5-8) scored three times before
making an out, thanks to consecutive run-scoring doubles by Raegan
Cederquist and Hayden Boutell, and put up four runs or more in each of
the first four innings. Big Rapids attempted to keep pace - a six-run
third inning pulled the Cardinals to within 12-9 - but Montague kept up
the pressure and pulled away.
Jocelyn Rodriguez-Perez drove in
six runs with extra-base hits in consecutive innings; she had a
bases-loaded triple in the second inning, a two-run double in the third,
and another RBI double in the fourth. Cederquist and Boutell each had
four hits and combined for seven RBI, and Greta Auch rang up a 5-for-5
performance and scored five times. Boutell earned the win in the circle,
striking out five.
Montague managed seven hits in the game-one loss, including two each by Sophia Beishuizen and Addyson Hall.
