Whitehall baseball drops doubleheader to Mona Shores

Whitehall lost a doubleheader to Mona Shores Thursday in non-conference play, 10-9 and 10-5.
The Vikings (1-5) surrendered a seventh-inning run to spoil a dramatic three-run comeback in the top half of the inning in game one. The Sailors got a single, a sacrifice bunt and a run in the inning.
Whitehall's three-run seventh featured a RBI double by Noah Morse, who later advanced to third on a wild pitch and stole home to tie the game.
Nate Betz, Hunter Peterson and Myles Welch each got two hits for the Vikings in the opener, and Eli Winters had a double. Welch pitched six innings, allowing 11 hits and striking out two.
Game two was shortened to five innings by darkness, but the Sailors only needed three to pile up 10 runs, banging out 12 hits off Whitehall pitching. Only five of the runs were earned, thanks to two Viking errors.
Whitehall only got one hit in the game - a Brock Morningstar RBI single in the fifth inning - but drew 10 walks. Peterson led three Viking pitchers in the game, throwing a spotless inning with one strikeout.
